Reviews

""Bonnie's book is beautiful, full of stories of love, loneliness, bravery, and sorrow. Those words also apply to friendships and recollections for people like myself -- a soldier and colleague with Bill Chandler who felt deeply his sudden and unexpected loss. In combat, everyone's war is different, depending on where one was assigned, whom one worked for and with, and when those experiences took place in the war. It took me many years, but with the help of family, friends, and colleagues, I, too, found a way to mend my badly bruised heart through memory and thoughtful comments from others. Bonnie's wisdom will help you understand that we are never alone."" Colonel John Haseman, US Army Retired. Author of ""In the Mouth of the Dragon: Memoir of a District Advisor in the Mekong Delta, 1971-1973"" ""Widowed at 24 and left with two young daughters to raise when her husband was killed in action in the waning months of the Vietnam War, author Bonnie Cotton's beautifully written memoir of love, loss, grief, resilience, and renewal is a powerful and heartbreaking reminder of the immense sacrifices made not only by the fallen service members our country sends into harm's way but also by their spouses, children, parents, siblings, classmates and friends and the men and women with whom they serve."" Michael F Delaney, Captain, US Army, MACV Advisory Team 88, Republic of Vietnam - 1971-72

Author Information

Bonnie Cotton's journey began in a small farming community in eastern Washington State. At eighteen, she embarked on an adventure across Europe, a testament to the universal human desire for exploration and discovery. For the past four decades, she has called a more metropolitan area home, a reminder that our paths may diverge, but our shared experiences of love, loss, and resilience bind us together. She has advanced degrees in Sociology and Theology and a twenty-seven-year career in Ordained Ministry. Today, she lives in Olympia, Washington, where, in retirement, she spends time quilting, gardening, writing, and planning her next adventure.
