Overview

Squeaky Clean traces the history of the practise of newborn baby rubdown in Africa, as well as, the origin of the proposed oil. The proposal to promote the benefits of the application of this technique from scientific, cultural, and social points of view in order to prevent malodorousness and to explore the ethical promotion of health and well-being. The Oxford Dictionary defines malodorousness as 'the state of smelling extremely unpleasant.' Is it a disease if so, is it treatable? It is not a life-threatening state of consciousness for non-sufferers; but sufferers will beg to differ. It is a fact that the body's natural smell is non- offensive, and less so with a clean body. However, the combination of bacteria acting on sweat, dirt, and other elements on the body could be provocative and intolerable to the nose. My preventative advocacy within the content of this book is less challenging and better than a cure; ultimately, 'a stitch in time saves nine.' It is not very often that one has an opportunity to write a book on baby hygiene, and one written in a global context of health and wellbeing. The sheer practicality of acquiring a skill that is both safe for newborns and valuable if applied at the appropriate time is prudish and befitting. Furthermore, this process may ensure that newborns will escape the burden of acquiring preventative body odour beyond childhood. This bath incorporates an application of oil lubricant using a technique similar to massage. The massage and following bath is a handy tool for parents. There is no claim that everyone who did not have this special massage and the subsequent bath after birth has developed malodorousness, and neither does one advocate administering it to all newborn babies. One perceived that the implication of not giving the newborn baby rubdown could result in or aid the process of the likelihood of developing body odour later in adulthood.
