He was music director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra from 1972 until 2000, founder of the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra, jury chairman of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition from 1973 until 2013, and music director of the Corpus Christi Symphony for twelve seasons. He is currently music director emeritus of both the Fort Worth Symphony and the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra and a retired distinguished fellow in music at TCU.
