The Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) is a five-level system that indicates the severity of the condition. These three levels account for the majority of people with spastic diplegia. Lily Collison, MA, MSc, is the parent of an adult with spastic diplegia. In addition to raising her son, she studied the condition extensively including completing a research study in cerebral palsy for a Master of Science degree in 2008. She has now written Spastic Diplegia-Bilateral Cerebral Palsy in conjunction with senior medical staff at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare. Lily has three adult sons, and lives in Ireland with her husband. She runs every day and enjoys fitness, food, reading, and travel. Jean Stout, PT, MS, Research Physical Therapist at the James R.
