OverviewThis alphabet book is a celebration of the South Shore of Nova Scotia and the art of rug hooking. Crafted by twenty-five local artists, the unique rugs in this collection take inspiration from the natural world around them. The River House Rug Hookers meet regularly at River House, a little shop nestled right on the banks of the Petite Riviere in Nova Scotia. The group wanted to embark on a project celebrating the local area, and collaboratively decided to make an alphabet book. Each artist picked a letter from an envelope, and then designed and hooked a piece based on word(s) starting with that letter. Each rug hooker submitted a description to accompany their piece, telling the story of their rug, the world that inspired it, and the materials used to create their piece. Perfect for locals, tourists, and those who want to show their support for local artists, South Shore Alphabet is a delightful and artistic exploration of a unique place in Canada. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationThe River House Rug Hookers are all residents (some seasonal and some year-round) of the South Shore of Nova Scotia. River House is located in the beautiful village of Petite Riviere, and Jane Steele is its proprietor. All of the artists in the collective are long-time rug hookers, and several work in other mediums as well. The River House Rug Hooking Studio and shop has been around for over eleven years. Rug hookers meet on the deck in the warm weather, and inside around the wood stove in the colder months, to hook, drink tea, and share stories.
