Overview

Originanilly the M&B 5, the Moody Blues rock band formed in 1964 and was part of the British beat and R&B scene of the 1960's. They had been going strong from 1964 through the early 2020's, performing 2,457 concerts over 60 years; coming to an average of 40 concerts a year. They created 16 studio albums and sold over 70 million with three top ten hits and twenty-one in Billboard's Top 100. They were the opening act for the Beatles last tour in 1964! The band's musical style is R&R, pop, psychedelic, symphonic, rock prog rock, and folk rock. Days of Future Passed in 1967 was the first LP to combine rock music with orchestra music - know as ""Symphonic Rock."" It is also known as the first successful concept albums. The Moody Blues symphonic sound has influenced groups such as Yes, Genesis, the Electric Light Orchestra and Deep Purple. Moody Ray Thomas was the first rock group member to feature a flute in their music. Founding member Mike Pindar helped develop the Mellotron synthesizer that simulated the sound of a string orchestra. Rop Chapman of The Guardian writes the band as ""psychedelias's forgotten heroes."" He claims their music between 1967 and 1970 ""possessed grace and beauty."" In 2013, Rolling Stone Magazine wrote the Moody Blues were one of ten bands that should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On April 14th, 2018, The Moody Blues were finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are pioneers who influenced rock bands and rocked fans around the world.
