Overview

Born Patricia Andrzejewski, she was born in Brooklyn and raised in Lindenhurst Long Island. Her father was a sheet metal worker and her mother was a beautician. Pat began singing in elemenatary school and never stopped. She married high school sweetheart Dennis Benatar and followed him to his Army base in South Carolina. In 1973 while working as a banker, and her banker friends attended a Liza Minelli concert in South Carolina and Pat Benatar thought, ""I can do that!"" She moved to New York City in 1973 to pursue a singing career and also divorced in 1979. She began performing at Manhattan's ""Catch a Rising Star"" in 1975 and thrilling the audience she soon found a paying gig. On Halloween in 1977 she performed in a Cat Woman outfit and received a standing ovation and from then on knew the spandex persona was a hit. In 1978 she began singing commericals for Pepsi, but she really wanted to be a singer in a band in the Led Zeppelin vein. In 1979 she was introduced to Cleveland guitar -man Neil Giraldo. She and Giraldo have been married over 33 years. In 1979 they created the ""Heat of the Night"" album with produced the classic hit ""Heartbreaker."" Since then they created 12 albums through 2002 with 17 songs in the Top 100. ""We Belong,"" ""Hit Me with Your Best Shot,"" ""Invincible,"" ""Shadows of the Night,"" ""Fire & Ice,"" Treat Me Right and ""You Better Run"" are among the many other hits. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 and is ranked #39 as the ""Greatest Woman in Rock and Roll"" by VH1. This is a proper introduction of Pat Benatar's music for Generation Z.
