Overview

John Denver was an American singer-songwriter, record producer, actor, activist and humanitarian. By 1974, he had been established as one of America's best-selling performers and was among one of the most loved entertainers of his era. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr., in Roswell, New Mexico in 1943, the son of a U.S. Air Force Officer. John joined a boys choir and took guitar lessons on a guitar given to him by his Grandmother at age 12. By age 20, he was pursuing a career in music. He joined the Mitchell Trio and was convinced to take a stage name, which became John Denver in honor of his favorite state, Colorado. He won Entertainer of the Year in 1975, starred in the movie ""Oh God!"" with George Burns and was directed by Carl Reiner. Denver was friends with President Jimmy Carter, Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets and oceanographer Jacque Cousteau. He had a passion for the world community and performed in the USSR in 1985, 1986 and 1987 as well as China in 1992. He was hurt when he was snubbed by the ""We Are the World"" production involving over 45 singers to raise money for the drought and famine strickent countries of Africa. Dener was the artist who had done more on the issue of world hunger than any other artist. He believed in protecting the planet and that we lived in a global village. His Greatest Hits album sold over 10 million copies and was a top seller for RCA Records. He had fur number one hits and a slew of top ten hits that resulted in 14 gold and 8 platimum ablums. His most loved and recognized songs are ""Rocky Mountain High,"" ""Annie's Song,"" ""Sunshine on My Shoulders,"" ""Take Me Home Country Road"" and ""Thank God I'm a Country Boy."" This book is a proper introduction of John Denver for Generation Z. It includes his background, influences, discography, albums, songs and quotes as well.
