Overview

From the year of Dostoevsky's death, 1881, to the end of the Cuban missile confrontation, VLAST tells the story of Old Russia and the Soviet Union through the experiences of the Vsyvin family of nobles, revolutionaries and counterrevolutionaries. The three books of VLAST are Son of the Troubadour, Shadows of the Gods, and Mask of the Theatre. In the first book, Sergei Ivanovich comes of age and into prominence with the parallel rise of Vladimir Ulyanov and Nicholas the Second. Sergei is imbedded in the intrigues of each man in his effort to establish a middle path between them, bringing the ends of the political spectrum to a newly invigorated center, only to discover that at the moment of crisis the center is the least desirable position in the battle.
