Overview

Soldier Of A 1,000 Faces is a small compilation of letters written to combat soldiers who may not otherwise receive mail. The idea was to share these letters among the soldiers so that everyone who wanted, got a letter. The premise is to take a touch of home to men and women who were, perhaps for the first time, far away from home. The job of war is a hard, often unforgiving. To take our heroes away from those hardships momentarily, I tried to remind them what they were protecting, and moreover, how much we appreciated their unselfish efforts, and that their efforts were so much more than just a job. Each letter was written as though an individual were sitting beside me and chatting about the events of my daily life and humorous stories of my past, sometimes embellished for effect, more often than note, not embellished at all. I caught a fish THIS big! Humor can be a reprieve from all sorts of conditions and perhaps at some unexpected time, be shared and remembered again and again. Moreover, positive strokes deliver pride in ones self, and no matter who you are, everybody needs a warm fuzzy, from time to time. Here's one for today, Letter #---. Laugh with me, beam with me, and for a moment, be next to me where I am safe.

Author Information

Margaret Greet is a registered nurse and lives in Vero Beach, Florida. She shares her time with her dogs, her horses and her best friend. Her mission is to make sure our troops overseas receive correspondence frequently by sharing parts of her world with them. Her vision is to make sure that our troops know how much they are respected, appreceited, admired and honored on a daily basis. I was raised around soldiers, tanks, guns and the military lifestyle. I clearly remember the war in Viet Nam and how our country was torn apart. I can still hear Taps being played at my brother, Mike's funeral, and seeing my father cry, a heart break that will never heal. I went along my life's path, doing my best to be a productive citizen, and a good American. Then 9-11 happened. Until the moment I witnessed the second airplane hit the tower, I thought that had I ever been in a war, I would have lay down and played dead until it was over. That day changed everything for all of us. I knew that I would stand shoulder to shoulder with the strongest and bravest among us. But from my place on my small path, I had nowhere to put my newly found machismo. Until one day... Finally, an avenue to possibly touch a soldier's day. Finally, something I could contribute to the war effort, if you will. My verbal victory garden. So began my campaign. In my letters I tried to talk to each and every one of them as if they were seated across from me at the dining room table in my home. I hope that feeling transcended the distance those letters traveled. I hope the letters left them with a feeling that there was a candle in the window expressly for them. And that they were thought about. That was my intention. Margaret continues diligently sending letters to our troops in all theaters. Please check out Soldier Of A 1,000 Faces Facebook page and feel free to comment and express your feelings, your thoughts, your patriotism and your commitment to our troops.
