Reviews

In his examination of the life of college professors, Mr. Hayes looks at the politics of academe, along with what would-be professors can expect in the way of a personal life, considering the demands that will be made of them. Among other topics, he explores the insufficiency of financial support, the issue of affirmative action, and the plight of adjunct instructors. He also delves into the advantages and disadvantages of teaching at the college level and offers suggestions on how to be both an effective instructor and a competent researcher. The Chronicle of Higher Education
