Overview

The year is 1949. Courts in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Louisville, Kentucky have failed to bring certain accused criminals to justice. These men begin to mysteriously disappear. One common thread amongst all the men is they are either Jewish or black. Swastika graffiti begins showing up in both cities. Are these disappearances the work of a group of citizen vigilantes, the Ku Klux Klan, or perhaps an organization even more sinister? Uncovering the truth will be the job of Axel Ryker, a cruel, scar-faced former Gestapo hitman now working for the CIA, and Erika Lehmann and her Shield Maidens, an elite group of female CIA operatives with equally shady pasts.

Reviews

We now have twelve novels in Mike Whicker's Erika Lehmann spy thriller series. Even though this is a series, each book stands alone. The reader will not be lost if the novels are not read in order. Each one enthralls us with completely new mysteries and capers by Erika Lehmann and her intriguing gang of misfit but highly skilled comrades--a group that Whicker never lets us make up our minds if we admire or condemn. Regardless of if we love them or hate them these characters are never boring. Smoketown Legend kept me reading into the night as has all of Whicker's novels for the past twenty years. --Dr. P.K. Riley, Ph.D. Historian and Writer
