OverviewBoth medical students and graduate physicians may encounter patients with psychiatric disorders in non-psychiatric settings of general or specialty medical practice. The six vignettes presented in this book demonstrate such encounters respectively for patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder and psychopathy. For instructional purposes the medical practitioners in the vignettes make multiple errors and miss vital pieces of information, allowing the student-readers to feel comfortably superior, as well as allowing instructors to make useful teaching points. The vignette format serves as a non-threatening manner in which to present major mental illnesses as they may be encountered in real world settings.
