OverviewThe research explores issues relating to competencies, policies and technology. It adopts a knowledge-based perspective, arguing that tacit knowledge often forms the basis of dynamic capabilities. This study shows how the film industry in Singapore is transforming. Singaporean film remains marginal in the global circuit of film production and distribution. Can it rise to become more recognised while delivering economic returns on creative investment? By examining the film industry from a knowledge-based perspective and taking into account intangibles, the study contributes to our understanding of management practices. In the process, it builds on previous contributions in this field and contributes to a better understanding of the creative industries.The research also identifies other underlying factors for success in the film industry in Singapore. This study examines the aspirations and cultural policies of Singapore as well as the business and managerial aspects of filmmaking in the landscape of film success.
