This brief book comes out of the experiences of the African diaspora in the Netherlands. Three of the six chapters were written by the editor, the executive director of the African Diaspora Policy Center (ADPC), founded in Amsterdam in 2006. Editor Mohamoud indicates in his introductory chapter that a key purpose of the book, the product of a multi NGO-sponsored project, is to stimulate a two-way exchange of ideas and insights about African development, making sure to include positive experiences, since much of the Dutch discussion dealing with the topic in recent years has been of the gloom-and-doom variety. Chapters, notably all written by African authors, discuss African conflict resolution efforts, democratization and good governance projects, and the role of education in developing African human capital (calling for more attention to vocational and technical education), plus two chapters dealing with the actual and potential role of the African diaspora in Europe, mainly in the Netherlands. While the book has some useful information, especially in the diaspora-centered sections, its European focus will limit its appeal to broader audiences. Summing Up: Optional. Graduate students through practitioners.-C. W. Hartwwig, Arkansas State University
