Staff notation does not show the actual finger placement of chords and, just as importantly, gives no instruction for the right hand fingering. The Best Guitar Hymn/Instruction Book--EVER!!!, Newel, Your book has been a revelation. GuitarPerfect notation and your book make playing chord melody (harmonic melody) guitar a snap. I have tried learning Ted Green s Modern Chord Progressions time and time again, only to put the book down with little progress to show for it. With your GuitarPerfect notation and the hymn book, I have been able to learn and play 70 hymns in less than three months, and look forward to learning many more. Learning chord melody to actually play songs, not progressions is certainly a key to my progress. Finally, allow me to say that learning these songs has brought increased harmony and peace in our home. My wife loves to sing along as I practice. playing and singing the hymns has greatly increased the spirit in our home.

Author Information

Newel Kimball grew up in Idaho and Utah. He joined the army after graduating from high school, serving two years in Korea. While in the Army, Newel was active in entertaining Army troops with his guitar. Upon his discharge from the military, he graduated from Utah State University with degrees in History, Russian and Machine Technology. For many years Newel was involved in manufacturing, business management, computer technology and musical innovation. For the past 25 years he has been at Brigham Young University-Idaho, having taught more than 4000 students in his unique Harmonic Melody guitar classes.
