Overview

The disgraced knight turned inquiry agent searches for a missing relic in this Macavity Award-finalist mystery set in fourteenth century London. Former knight Crispin Guest is now known in the streets of medieval London as the Tracker--an investigator who can find anything and anyone. What begins as a straightforward case of murder turns complicated when Crispin realizes that the victim was an important courier in possession of a holy artifact--an object so valuable that its absence could start a war between France and England. Surrounded by possible suspects, Guest will have to use his wiles to navigate both the exclusive halls of King Richard's court, and the hardscrabble streets of fourteenth-century London. In a world full of old friends, mysterious strangers, and dangerous enemies--including the treasonous mastermind who caused Crispin's fall from grace--Crispin will have to uncover a deadly conspiracy to protect his country, save himself, and perhaps even restore his good name.

Author Information

"Jeri Westerson worked in a bevy of careers prior to setting her sights on becoming a novelist. Would-be actress, graphic artist, theology teacher, tasting host and tour guide for a winery, and newspaper reporter were among them. She wanted to create her own brand of medieval mystery, and combined the concept of medieval mystery with hard-boiled detective fiction into what she calls ""Medieval Noir."" Her novel Veil of Lies, garnered nominations for the Macavity Award for Best Historical Mystery and the Shamus Award for Best First PI Novel, the first medieval mystery to be so honored. She has lectured around the country about the Middle Ages, demonstrating her cache of medieval weaponry, and is vice president for the southern California chapter of Mystery Writers of America. She is also a member of Private Eye Writers of America and the Historical Novel Society. She is married to a commercial photographer, has a screenwriter son, and herds two cats, a tortoise, and the occasional tarantula at her home in southern California. Noah James Butler originally hails from New Mexico. He received his first taste of the business of show as an extra on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries, after which he began tirelessly pursuing any form of performance he could get himself into. This brought him to The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan, and upon graduation, on to The College of Santa Fe, where he received a degree in philosophy. Moving to Oakland, California, he quickly created a thriving theater career, and then discovered voice-over. His love of listening to old-time radio shows, especially The Mercury Theatre's production of Orson Welles's War of the Worlds, finally landed Noah in the realm of audiobooks. It was love at first listen, and Noah set out to create a truly immersive experience for the listener."
