OverviewSee What They've Done to Our SunRise brings together poems I have been working on since the publication of my last collection, The Place We Call Home (2011). However, as can be seen from the dates on most of the poems, a good number have been written much more recently, especially the poems in Movement One, the first four in Movement Two, as well as two of the three poems in Movement Four. Somehow, the last several months have found me working on quite a few poems, often going back over the same poems again and again even as new ones kept coming. The result is that a number of these poems have come in several versions, each version saved separately. ""SOUNDINGS for The SongBird"", for instance, exists in Twenty Versions. Those familiar with my previous work would have noticed that each of the earlier collections begins or ends with a poem taken from an earlier collection, often the one immediately preceding it. In the same vein, See What They've Done To Our SunRise opens with ""The Place We Call Home"", the title piece of my previous collection. By this practice, I intend to signal an organic thematic and stylistic connection running through much of my poetry. But it is not for me to pinpoint the precise nature of this connection. I am sure the diligent reader can work it out without any prompting from me. These ""New Poems from an Old Loom"" properly begin with ""They Will Be Gone. Again"", a poem inspired by my granddaughters Buerki and Buerkuor, under the tireless motherly care of their mother, Akofa. Watching them bloom in the SunRise of their Life as I slowly walk towards my own SunSet brings a special kind of joy and anxiety and ultimately hope perhaps best known to most parents and grand patents. And if the collection concludes with ""The Way I'd Like to Go and Come"", it is only to make the point which was memorialized for me in the circumstances of the late Kofi Awoonor's departure from among us, the fact that we can and must make a choice of life in the face of inevitable death.
