Overview

The rapidly growing Internet of Things presents a looming security concern for not only consumers, but businesses, critical infrastructure, and even national security. Through real-world examples, this practical book takes a holistic look at IoT security today and impending threats that could cripple your organization. You'll then explore a series of technical solutions for reducing risks by implementing secure technology from the ground up. No other resource provides such a comprehensive, yet succinct look at both IoT risks and their mitigations. You'll learn how to identify, track, and resolve several security risks. A poorly designed IoT infrastructure can expose several attack vectors. This book clearly outlines cost-effective and practical ways to combat complex, growing risks in IoT, saving companies millions in lawsuits, fines, customer attrition, and business disruption.

Author Information

Don A. Bailey is a groundbreaking information security researcher, a founding researcher in the Internet of Things movement, and the first ever car hacker. Don's research broke open the world of IoT to the information security field and predicted how the risks brought on by this technological movement would affect not only consumers, but businesses and governments. He was given a grant by DARPA to research IoT in 2012. This research resulted in the body of work that would serve as a basis for the GSMA IoT Security Guidelines, which Mr. Bailey would write in concert with the GSMA in 2015. Released at Mobile World Congress, this effort incorporates IoT security expertise from every major cellular carrier or smart-card manufacturer worldwide. Don, previously the Director of Research at the world renowned iSEC Partners consulting firm, is currently launching Lab Mouse, Inc., a startup that focuses on offering cost-effective and ground-breaking technology for the world of IoT. Bailey has given dozens of talks, mostly on IoT security and mobile, over the past ten years. He is an 8-time speaker at Black Hat Events, 5 time speaker at Hack in the Box, and has spoken at prestigious conferences such as Syscan, 44Con, SOURCE, Nullcon, Bellua, and others. Don's work has been featured on National Public Radio, Forbes, BBC, Fox News, CNN, and more.
