OverviewThis book solves scattering problems for elastic waves in solids using analytical and semi-analytical approaches, methods that are useful for simply shaped obstacles at low and intermediate frequencies. The obstacles include circles, spheres, and straight and circular cracks. Both isotropic and some anisotropic solids are treated. The book concludes with an introduction to applications in ultrasonic non-destructive evaluation and material characterization. The problems taken up are of interest in themselves, but also have the potential to act as benchmark solutions for numerical methods like FEM.As such, this is the broadest existing book in this area. It should be of interest to researchers and PhDs working with modelling approaches in several applied areas such as ultrasonic non-destructive testing and material characterization. The book is also relevant to problems in geophysics. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationAnders Boström obtained an MSc in Engineering Physics in 1975 and a PhD in Mathematical Physics in 1980, both from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. He became professor and chair of mechanics in 1986 at Chalmers and professor emeritus in 2018. Among other positions he has been head of department. He has supervised more than 20 PhD students and has published more than 80 papers in international journals. He has been active in national and international scientific organizations and he has conducted many reviews (typically 10-15 per year) for international journals. His research interests include wave propagation and scattering in elastic solids, primarily with analytical methods, with applications in such areas as nondestructive evaluation, material characterization, and ground vibrations.
