Saving Atlantis

Overview

In a world where over one-third of the population possesses telepathy, clairvoyance, or precognition-and real magic is a recognized ability-the spirits of the suddenly dead usually leave a message of farewell. American agent Michael Macduff retired after his wife and son, Jill and Rory, were murdered. But Jill's spirit never left the farewell message, leaving Mike haunted by the mystery. Years later, an old friend persuades him to unretire after three agents are killed in the island nation of Caledonia, where a dangerous conspiracy in the island nation of Caledonia threatens America's national security-and their clairvoyants have located Mike's family's killer. He is in Caledonia. Mike and Jill had vacationed on the island, and formed a close friendship with a local couple, Adam and Samantha; Adam was killed shortly after the death of Mike's family. When Mike returns to visit Samantha and her three-year-old daughter, Atlantis, the stage is set for his mission-and he soon discovers that Jill's spirit has been waiting for him. Back in agent mode, Mike uses his arsenal of skills-plus a touch of discrete violence-to confront the conspirators and bring his family's killers to justice. Among them are Samantha's own father and stepmother, now aligned with Russian forces. But Michael Macduff stands in their way.

Author Information

Fred Waiss was born and raised in Colorado, where a lifelong love of reading began as soon as he learned the skill. As a kid, his idea of reading the newspaper meant diving into the comics and sports pages-a habit he proudly maintains, though his ""newspaper"" is now online. At age ten, his father introduced him to science fiction, launching a ten-year love affair with the genre. Along the way, he also discovered Tolkien, Howard, and De Camp, which sparked a passion for fantasy and eventually led him to write speculative fiction himself. Fred earned a degree in education with majors in English and physical education, but teaching high school proved too stressful. He still misses coaching, but not the classroom. Now widowed, he lives and works part time in Wisconsin, though he misses the Rocky Mountains. He shares his home with his peculiar (but handsome!) big dog and his brother-Fred's brother, not the dog's. In his spare time Fred writes speculative fiction, blogs, and enjoys the conveniences of modern technology-especially research, email submissions, and always-accessible oldies music.
