OverviewThe two-volume study on Austrian baroque furniture examines interiors of monasteries and world churches. This first volume presents furniture from the eastern parts of the country (Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria) in a comprehensive catalog. Based on the St. Gallen monastery map, image sources and contemporary writings, he also describes the history of sacred institutions and thus meets a desideratum of art history. The research goes far beyond a purely descriptive analysis of the inventory. In addition to genuinely art-historical questions, she touches on areas of economic and social history and thus paints a vivid picture of the carpenters, their products and their living conditions in the early modern period. In addition, the second volume of the study will deal with furniture from the other Austrian regions, as well as questions about the guild system, migratory movements and the general life situation of carpenters.
