OverviewFless' thesis examines the distribution of Attic red-figure vases across the Greek and non-Greek worlds during the 4th century BC and considers the social implications of their archaeological context. Based on a comparative analysis of assemblages from the necropolis and settlement of Olynthus and sites in Iberia and the Pontic region, the study argues that each region regarded these vessels very differently and put them to different ritualisic and symbolic use. Much of the study comprises an illustrated catalogue. Greek and English summaries, German text.
