Overview

We become who we are in part because of who we bump into on our journeys. Some encounters knock us off our feet, leave us dizzy, and make the world look different in an instant. Others are just shoulder brushes, intersections we barely even notice at the time. But the human confluence changes our shape. In Rooted to Rise, Hall of Fame women's basketball coach Sherri Coale shares the indelible truths she's learned from the people she's crossed paths with in her life. From Coale's small-town roots to her award-winning courtside career, her life has been littered with remarkable connections. Each connection, small or large, is a vital part of Coale's journey. As a coach, as a mother, as a daughter, and as a friend, she shares insight from those responsible for teaching her, as well as those she has been responsible for teaching. Coale invites you to learn from the wisdom she's gained from paying close attention to the extraordinary, the ordinary, and all that's in between.

Reviews

Rooted to Rise is a collection of real-life stories that portray the extraordinary way people mark our lives, from the family we're born into to the serendipitous collisions that shape us on our journey. You will laugh and cry and recognize yourself in what you read. - Sally Jenkins, Washington Post sports columnist, author, and Pulitzer Prize finalist Al Davis, the former owner of the Oakland Raiders, would often tell me to watch this lady coach. She is brilliant. Davis, a true aficionado of women's basketball, was a Sherri Coale fan, so I followed his advice and started becoming one. Rooted to Rise is a powerful collection of stories written with a Joan Didion-like narrative that every coach, teacher, husband, and wife will benefit from reading. So thank you, Al, for the advice. Thank you more, Sherri, for the lessons. - Michael Lombardi, former General Manager and three-time Super Bowl-winning executive for the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, and Cleveland Browns Rooted to Rise is a must-read for all coaches, leaders, teams, and anyone who wants to grow. Sherri shares the stories of pivotal moments in her life that helped her become one of the very best basketball coaches in the country. There's a reason we have had the successes we have had, and that's because of the people who have touched our lives. Sherri shares her people and encourages us to remember ours, and throughout the book, she shares so many incredible life lessons we all should insert into our own lives. - Kevin Eastman, former NBA coach, author, and executive coach
