Overview

A book written on empirically researched facts that won't necessarily be taught in the classroom due to curriculum being a leverage of power, Rise, My Setting Son is designed to open the eyes and minds of Black men and more to the possibilities of acknowledging our part of being controlled in our positions of lack. Not a book to be used to cause division, but a book to help determine the spirit in which we exist in society and to acknowledge we are more alike than not. A book with hopes to motivate all cultures, but specifically, urge Black men to take control of our choices, our communities, and our futures through getting involved and leading communities to make changes. We have all we need to be better...it's time to make a choice.

Author Information

"As an educator for over two decades with advanced degrees, I sit and I am amazed by the resistance to offer an equitable access to what is consider the top tier schooling to all students regardless of zip codes. The playing field isn't fair and has never been and we continue to be distracted from our most important product as a nation. Tired of watching those in specific perceived positions of power use distractions as they stand on acronyms and emotional phrases to galvanize people around shouts of wisdom and whispers of hate, I wanted to make sure that students had a version of the ""truth"" they could read outside of school. As we we watch presidential candidates and politicians at various levels try to control schooling for their personal and professional gains, I am leaning on free will to further advance a narrative of which some are afraid. More importantly, as a Black male who has endured the additional lift in my life and as father and mentor to Black boys ad young men, I wanted the future generations to have access to a voice informing them of the historical social development of the Black man and the power each man has to build a better tomorrow for themselves, for others in their community, and America as a whole. Those who want to connect, let's start this movement and reach me through social media under my name. Let's go!"
