She loves the outdoors and all that it has to offer; especially physical activities like biking, hiking, boating, skiing and her newest discovery - stand up paddling. She is also a jump rope enthusiast and has coached a traveling AHA Jump Rope since 1995. Liz received her undergraduate degree in physical education from Plymouth State College in 1987 and holds a master's degree in physical education curriculum and instruction from the University of Maine, Orono. She has been teaching physical education to grades K through 8 since 1987. Currently, she teaches at South Bristol Elementary School (www.sbsphysicaleducation.intuitwebsites.com) and Southport Central School. Both are small community elementary schools on the coast of Maine. In addition to teaching she has served on many curriculum committees, has worked as a physical education curriculum chairperson, provided leadership during assessment work, worked on state assessment development committees, served on the expert review team for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development's (ASCD) Understanding by Design (UbD) online unit exchange and have presented numerous workshops for physical educators. She is a member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD). In 2004 she received the Distinguished Leadership Award in physical education curriculum, teaching, and assessment from MAHPERD, which also named me Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 1995. Liz started Learning On The Move, LLC in the summer of 2010 with the intent of developing a business out her passion for physical activity and teaching physical education. After publishing The Physical Education Assessment Toolkit through Human Kinetics Publishing Company, she knew that developing resources and writing for other like-minded teachers was something that she would like to pursue. She has a strong interest in cognitive science and brain compatible learning and has attempted to apply many of the principles in daily interactions with children. As she works to develop resources and build this business her goal is to offer resources and ideas for implementation built on that foundation.
