Overview

A relatable combination of story, art, and reflection by artist Abigail Renola Tjaden, Rest Your Weary Mind: Humorously Rewriting the Narrative from Within is for those who find themselves fighting negative self-talk, anxious thoughts, and self-doubt on the daily. Tjaden openly discloses her fair share of stressful situations-like spilling olive oil all over her computer before a blind date, getting lost on the New York City subway, and attempting hot yoga for the first time-and how her inner critic made these circumstances worse than necessary. Readers witness Tjaden's growth as she learns to quiet the inner critic and moves toward trusting herself. Through reflective journal prompts, readers are prompted to do the same. Rest Your Weary Mind teaches readers that life is full of rain and sunshine-as any Portlander like Tjaden knows-but you can learn to dance in both. It's possible to learn how to let go of what's out of our control and find freedom from the inner critic and nagging thought patterns that tell us what we can't do. We can give our minds a rest, and we'll be better for it. Readers will be encouraged to process their own growth through: Short Essays that detail Tjaden's personal journey of rewriting her narrative through fun, relatable, and quirky stories from her own life Illustrations drawn by Tjaden herself to complement themes shared throughout the book Journal Prompts that will push readers to get creative, and consider how they can rewrite their own narratives

"""There's a different journey for each of us to name what we want and embrace the skin we're in. The cool part is that we don't grow alone. It's books like this that remind us that we're in it together."" -Bonnie Weeks, Creator of Flow School, Podcast Host ""Abigail's writing, as well as her drawings are delightfully approachable and accessible. Ordinary objects are the starting point for her to share relatable annotates and creative exercises to help the reader center themselves and seize the day. Abigail's voice is delightful and reading this book is like hanging out with a friend."" - Kate Bingaman-Burt, Professor, Commercial Illustrator, Author"
