Overview

Love, sacrifice and triumphGrace, a nurse in France, finds herself in a forbidden situation. Tom, an officer in the Hussars, fights valiantly but is captured in the early months of World War I. Grace returns from France in 1918 to work in a repatriation hospital and tends to a patient with severe physical and mental trauma, with no memory of what has happened to him. When Grace's brother Percy visits the hospital, he instantly recognises the patient as his childhood friend, Tom. Tom gradually recovers his mental stability and he and Grace return to their hometown. Grace is pregnant and faces vile bigotry from the community she once belonged to, while Tom is consumed by guilt and struggles to comprehend all that happened during the war. Will Tom and Grace ever trust each other enough to fall in love? Based on a true story, Remembrance of Love and War is a commanding historical novel that takes readers on an unforgettable journey of love, sacrifice and ultimate triumph, encompassing the societal upheaval and endurance of families and the brutal realities of war.

Author Information

Carol is a member of the Katharine Susannah Prichard (KSP) Writers' Centre in Greenmount, Western Australia, and a long-time member of the Thursday Night writing group. In 2021, Carol was awarded a two-week Fellowship at KSP. She has been a participant in 'Write-a-book-in-a-day' 2007-2021 and a regular contributor to the Thursday Night Group Anthologies. Carol was a marriage and funeral celebrant for forty-three years. In that time, she worked closely with her clients, telling their stories to enhance and develop personally rewarding and deeply meaningful ceremonies. She is passionate about this story, Remembrance of Love and War, which reflects the life of her grandfather. Many years of research, including travelling to Britain and France, have culminated in this work. Carol's second work is of a very different genre. She is collating an anthology of short stories she has written in the field of Australian Gothic. Written over ten years, the stories are based on her personal and work experiences whilst travelling through the Kimberley, Northern Territory and along the Eyre Peninsular. Carol lives in Woodbridge, Western Australia. She is married to Jim. She has three adored children, Kate, Joanna and Nathanael and four grandchildren ... and not forgetting Gracie, their adorable pooch.
