OverviewThe alteration of soil and water quality due to the presence of Cr (VI) has become a cause for concern, as this element has high solubility in aqueous media and recognized toxicity. As a result, several authors have addressed the application of iron nanoparticles in the treatment of soils and groundwater contaminated by various classes of pollutants. However, few studies have been conducted on the use of iron nanoparticles in the remediation of groundwater or soils contaminated by Cr (VI). In this study, we investigated the influence of pH, contact time, nanoparticle concentration, and storage conditions on the reduction of Cr (VI) by metallic iron. The determination of the zeta potential of micrometric iron particles as a function of pH also contributed to a better interpretation of the results.
