Overview

Every team has at least one. That one player who's called on to make something happen. Throughout his career on the University of Kansas basketball team, Travis Releford was that guy. So much so, in fact, that on Senior Night 2013, head coach Bill Self told the Allen Fieldhouse crowd that Releford was the rock of our team. In his new book, Relentless, Releford candidly describes the hard work it took on the court and in the classroom to become the Rock of the Jayhawks. Growing up in the inner-city -- sometimes without food on the table, he became one of the most highly recruited basketball players in Kansas City history. He went from attending a predominantly white, private high school, to becoming a father while in college, to helping the Jayhawks reach the national championship game in 2012. The book is a must-read for any fan wanting an inside look at major college basketball. A great gift for any fan of the Kansas Jayhawks.

Author Information

Travis Releford went to the University of Kansas as a highly-touted basketball recruit out of the Kansas City area. After being the odd man out during his freshman season, Releford accepted a redshirt during his second year. For the next three seasons, Releford became the player that everyone anticipated him being: a gritty defensive specialist who could carry the Jayhawks when needed. He became so valuable by the end of his senior year that coach Bill Self called Releford the rock of the Jayhawks. Matt Fulks grew up in the Kansas City area with parents who pulled for the Jayhawks, and started his journalism career while attending Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, after his baseball career was cut short by a lack of ability. He spends his time as a freelance writer, editor and co-host of the radio show, Behind the Stats. He is the author/co-author of 14 other books, including Echoes of Kansas Basketball, More Than the Score, and A Good Place to Stop, co-authored with Max Falkenstien and Doug Vance. Matt resides in the Kansas City area with his wife Libby, their three children.
