English summary: Around 1800, the legacy of Roman antiquity was spreading through every area of cultural life. This study examines the concepts of 'the Roman' present in the major cultural disciplines of the time, including art history, historiography and literary history. Based on a detailed analysis of Roman discourse, the study reveals on the one hand the degree to which the supposed age of 'Greco mania' was actually referring to the Roman, while also showing the importance in terms of cultural theory and the aesthetic productivity in perceptions of Roman art and literature; with these perceptions having been absorbed by theories of modern and romantic art. Diese Studie untersucht die Vorstellungen vom Romischen, welche in den zeitgenossischen kulturellen Leitdisziplinen - der Kunstgeschichte, der Historiographie und der Literaturgeschichte - kursieren. Durch eine detaillierte Analyse des romischen Diskurses, der sowohl in prominenten und programmatischen Schriften als auch auf der Ebene von Rezensionen, Vorlesungsleitfaden und Kinderbuchern stattfindet, wird einerseits das Ausmass der Reflektion auf das Romische im vermeintlichen Zeitalter der Grakomanie deutlich, andererseits zeigt sich die kulturtheoretische Bedeutung und asthetische Produktivitat der Vorstellungen von der romischen Kunst und Literatur, welche die Theorie der modernen und der romantischen Kunst aufnimmt. Mit der Reflektion auf das Romische gehen zudem wissenschaftshistorische und epochale Konstruktionen einher. Der romische Diskurs zwischen Winckelmann und Niebuhr erweist sich letztlich als Vorbedingung der spateren expliziten Rehabilitation des Romischen in den Schriften Jacob Burckhardts, Nietzsches und Alois Riegls.
