He commanded troops at every level from a platoon to a corps on operations in Northern Ireland, Belize, former Jugoslavia, Sierra Leone, the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was Master of the Royal Armouries from 2009 – 2012 and the last Colonel of The Royal Welch Fusiliers. He holds three degrees including a PhD and has currently published 22 books.
