Author Information

Patrick McLain Hamman grew up in Northern Utah, where his passion for fishing blossomed amidst the abundance of streams and lakes. His father, a devoted fly fisherman and saltwater fishing enthusiast, became his lifelong mentor. Together, they spent countless hours fly fishing all over the West, along with numerous trips float tube fishing or in their redwood drift boat, exploring renowned rivers such as the Green, Snake, and Madison. From dawn to dusk, they cast their lines, and it was during these formative years that Patrick developed his understanding of fishing, guided by his father's expertise in entomology. A lifelong learner, Patrick's journey in fly fishing took him to Alaska, where he worked as a fishing guide in southwest Alaska. There, he guided for all five species of salmon, followed by being a fly-fishing guide targeting Dolly Varden, Grayling, and Leopard rainbow trout in the remote wilderness of Katmai National Park and Bristol Bay area. These experiences, fishing in untouched and wild places, deepened Patrick's skill as an angler and instilled in him a greater appreciation for nature and patience. In addition to his love of fishing, Patrick has a deep passion for art. He continues to find ways to blend his love for nature with his artistic vision, seeking new ways to capture the beauty of the outdoors, both on canvas and in life. Patrick now resides in Southern California with his wife, Jennifer Hamman, and their daughter, Abigail, who shares his love of fishing. The family also owns a property in Bridgeport, California, where they enjoy frequent visits to the Eastern Sierra, exploring the region's stunning wild trout lakes and streams. When he's not fishing or creating art, Patrick is always seeking new adventures and opportunities to inspire others through his twin passions for the outdoors and artistic expression.
