She is also a poet, with poems in six anthologies. Mary Lee has a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver in English and Elementary Education, and a master's degree from Ohio State University in Children's Literature. She is the co-coordinator of Ohio's Casting for Recovery program for breast cancer survivors, and is currently serving on NCTE's Charlotte Huck Award for Outstanding Fiction for Children Committee.
