Life in Bunker 5 has become intolerable under the oppressive rule of Tobias. As the bunker's self-appointed leader, he demands absolute obedience and controls the meager food rations with an iron fist. His son James has watched in despair as residents gradually waste away, fearful to challenge Tobias's draconian authority. When a crop failure threatens the residents with starvation, James decides it is time for change. He secretly contacts like-minded families exhausted by Tobias's tyranny. Promising an equal share of food and power, James convinces a group of allies to help overthrow his father. His plan is to sabotage the life support systems during the night cycle, when most residents are sleeping. The chaos will allow him to ambush Tobias in the confusion. James's sabotage works successfully, plunging the bunker into darkness and hysteria. With residents scrambling in the blackout, James locates his father and a brutal fight ensues. Though battle-hardened from years securing rations by force, Tobias is caught off guard. However, James underestimates his father's cunning and strength. What began as an ambush turns into a struggle for James's very survival. Out of options, James's intellect and understanding of the bunker's engineering may be his only advantage against his physically dominant father.
