Reviews

The description in this booklet of the effort required to hear with a hearing loss, and hearing aids, accurately matches my experience. My audiologist noted that I was more consistent in wearing my aids than most people - being prepared to 'work at getting them right' in the first few months has paid dividends. My job involves phone calls from many people with different voices and accents. I often fail to understand the first sentence said. Coming to understand that this is a symptom of hearing loss was a revelation, and has enabled me to cement strategies for dealing with it. Alan (Customer Support Officer) 'Rather a small chicken...' explained that hearing aids do not simply 'fix the hearing loss'. This is a point of particular interest. Valuable tips were provided to enhance communication channels between those who are hearing impaired and hearers. The required tuning and 'personalizing' of a hearing aid in follow up appointments enabled me to understand why people give up on wearing their aids. It seems a number of people don't understand this concept, and give up, opting to live in a silent world, rather than persisting with tedium of adjusting to their new aids. A practical and educational tool. Adele (Author and Scientist)
