Overview

Joe Swink grew up a tenant farm kid during the days of the great depression. Most everything he and his ten brothers ate was grown on their farm. Education, a social life, and self esteem were greatly flawed by his dysfunctional family life. Moral and spiritual guidance from his dad was grossly wanting. The magnitude of the problems of Joe's early life are obviously more acute today which illuminate rather than deter from the fact that there is no new thing under the sun . Ecclesiastes 1:9: With pain man is born, he travails for a season then dies and goes to his eternal reward. Nothing changes. Many scenes of Joe's life are reminiscent of The Grapes of Wrath . He witnessed the greatest transition in agriculture. He laboriously toiled the land as 85% of Americans did who made their living on small farms. He saw all those small farms in his community vanish into history as they were replaced by mega-farms in other states. Joe reminisces with humor and sees how God was involved in those hard times as very therapeutic.
