OverviewThe historical and theoretical elements of both the Queer and Neopagan communities are complex. Both have a dynamic and shifting relationship with the cultural mainstream, and share histories of concealment, social/political/religious persecution, and have been the targets of discursive strategies that often situates them as a subversive element, identifying them as markers of a society in danger of moral degeneration and systemic collapse. This discourse is made all the more powerful in that it, in part, relies upon the fact that both of the targeted communities cut cross lines of race, class, gender and culture, therefore indicating that ""anyone could be one of them"" and thus, ""the threat"" becomes more problematic, each cross-section of society developing its own strategies for targeting what is seen as both an Internal (that is, within the cross-section) and External (between groups, or impact the society as a whole) matter. Using both ethnographic and anecdotal narratives, Robert weaves a tapestry interrogating this paradigm.
