Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, and several of his followers used their psychological theories to explain the origin and functions of myths and religion. This book describes and critically examines their ideas as they presented them in their own texts. It is a strange journey through a world of thoughts restrained by psychoanalytical dogma and loyalty to its creator, with its own myths of sorts and - in spite of scientific claims - a fidelity that can be characterized as religious. Stefan Stenudd is a Swedish author, artist, and historian of ideas. He has published a number of books in Swedish as well as English, both fiction and non-fiction. Among the latter are books about mythology, Taoism, the cosmology of the Greek philosophers, the Japanese martial arts, Tarot, astrology, and life force concepts. His novels explore existential subjects from Stone-Age drama to science fiction, but lately he focuses increasingly on the present. In the history of ideas, he researches the thought patterns in creation myths, as well as theories about those myths through history. He is also a 7 dan instructor in the peaceful martial art aikido, which he has practiced for 50 years.
