Overview

Recipient of the 2017 Illumination GOLD Medal in Education. Finalist in 2017 Foreword Performing Arts Reviews. Why not sing your next Bible study on Psalm 119 or Psalm 8 or Psalm 2? Why not sing Psalm 23 at your next funeral? The Psalms were meant to be sung! They are delightful for memory work. Use to hedge against forgetfulness. Try this award-winning, interactive guide. In a lifetime feat, the author has adapted scripture lyrics, verse by verse in context, to traditional hymn tunes, leaving the interpretive style to your own musical tastes. Don't miss your go-to worship leader resource for singable, recitable Psalms. Won't you spend the price of a meal to invest in this extraordinary means to spiritual nutrition? Larkins has written an extraordinary Biblical hymnal delving into the questions of the Christian life. Small groups prime the fountain of deeper, inquisitive praise and worship with a common prayer book that translates the Psalms to memory. This modern Psalter is a commentary of timeless witness to God's involvement in your wealth and poverty, sickness, and betrayal, leaders who mess up, and those who live faithfully. Spiritual ancestors also went through fire and flood. Find prayers of the shepherd boy turned King, the one-time David who sent a faithful soldier to his death so that his wife could become David's queen. These are the songs of the wandering Abraham and Sarah, the prophecies of Moses, the courageous savior of Israel and of his sister, the prophetess-praise leader, Miriam. Who were the prophets who were forced to sing for their captures? Who were the Sons of Korah who escaped their father's destruction and became prolific songwriters? Find out more, so much more, in this collection of song classics, these treasures of the Faith. This volume of singable Psalm Hymns includes the first three books from the Old Testament (Psalm 1 through 89). Commit God's Word to memory. You may be fortifying yourself for the future in ways you don't yet understand. Use the liturgy of Queen Esther and the disciples, even Jesus Himself sang the Psalms. Use for unique theater or drama presentations, with an emphasis in counseling, for left-brain-right-brain interactive exercises, for character building memory work, or as a pastoral aid. For private meditation and worship retreats. Psalm Hymns reflect on the many loving-kindnesses of God, and they also contemplate the odd silences. Raw, classic prayers for a creative's portfolio call out to audiences. From the famous Psalm 5, Psalm 8, Psalm 23, Psalm 19 and Psalm 27 to the obscure Psalms: 1 to 4, or 9 through 17, and Psalms 35 and 36 onward, find yourself responding to the drama of historical pleas of mortal souls together with their worship and praises in singing and recitation. Use this poetry for personal and communal reflection. The Psalms are prescribed and authorized for worship throughout God's kingdom, and without them, our worship is censored, uninformed and incomplete. - Timothy Raymond (editor for Credo Magazine, Indiana) How would your faith change if you were to sing a psalm a day, evening or morning? How would your community of faith be enriched if you were to include a psalm of historical context, testimony or lament to your services? Psalms, in the Hebrew means Praises. Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 (HCSB) The phrase, teaching and admonishing, means there should be a place in our worship centers for historical education of the Psalms, performance, and discussion.

Author Information

No stranger to cross-cultural praise and worship among Christians, Larkins earned a B.A. in Bible and music composition from Colorado Christian University, during the Jesus Music era and served in traditional churches, as well as Y.F.C. youth and various African groups leading in worship and praise. She now studiously serves the wider body of Christ by transcribing psalms for singing and reflection, and by mentor-counseling.
