Overview

Brian Stack comes to the end of his military tour of duty determined not to reenlist. He's seen too many friends die during special ops missions, and he's come close to death himself. It's time for a change. Returning to his parents' home in Idaho, Stack tries to settle back into civilian life, with limited success. When he's contacted by a marine Colonel, he finds himself drawn back into service, but not in a recognized military capacity. The CIA wants him as an independent contractor: a black ops hit man. While training for his new, covert position, Stack's life takes another turn. He meets Daisy, a beautiful southern gal. Their relationship develops after Stack completes his training and starts his dangerous, but highly lucrative, new profession. Stack seems to have it all until his black ops contracts intrude on his personal life. A botched assassination attempt aimed at Stack has tragic consequences, putting Daisy's life on the line.

Author Information

Doug Andriese is a first-generation American whose parents immigrated to the United States. For many years, he has worked as a political opinion writer under a pseudonym for the protection of his family. He has a background in political science, philosophy, and history. He has made a fifteen-year study of the US Constitution, with a concentration on the First and Second Amendments. While Proof of Death is fiction, Andriese's own military experience in the Strategic Army Corps influenced his writing. He served with a young first lieutenant named Colin Powell in the late 1950s and early ?60s. Lieutenant Powell went on to become Secretary of State under President George W. Bush. Much of Andriese's military time remains classified.
