OverviewIn 2014, the transport sector was responsible for 18 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany. Of this, 95 per cent is caused by road traffic. It is also responsible for soil sealing, noise pollution and air pollution (FEDERAL ENVIRONMENTAL AGENCY 2016). Electric mobility offers a possible solution to these problems. The aim of this book is to develop a possible charging infrastructure concept for Bochum and to highlight further measures for promoting electric mobility in a municipality. There are many possible measures that can be taken within a municipality, and Bochum can implement many of them. The areas of organisation, communication and multimodality have proven to be particularly important. However, more commitment is needed from the federal government to really raise awareness of the issue among the general public. The charging infrastructure concept also provides guidelines for the future design of the city of Bochum and can be transferred to other cities. This makes this book particularly interesting for the city of Bochum, but also for other municipalities.
