Overview

Excerpt from Projection Factors for Milk and Fat Lactation Records Sample-day' milk and fat production records froni the New 'york, North Carolina, Iowa, wisconsin, and Utah Dairy Records Processing Centers for cows freshening in 1973 and 1974 were used to calculate the factors. Records were eliminated for the following reasons: Fewer than 180 days in milk, more than 55 days before the first sample day, no dry date (if less than 305 days in milk), more than 40 days from last sample day until the end of the record, more than 60 days between sample days, a sample-day milk production less than 1 pound or greater than 150 pounds, a sample-day fat percent less than or greater than any sample day reported as abnormal, or less than 18 months or greater than 96 months of age at freshening. These edits removed unusual records and records with important information missing. Cumulative production through each sample day and for 305 days was computed for each record using adjustments to the early and last test intervals.
