OverviewThe original tome of Progress and Poverty was written in English by the political economist and philosopher Henry George, and first published in San Francisco, California, USA in 1879. This newly-edited abbreviated edition of Progress and Poverty is part of a three-level presentation of the original text, created by Paul Martin, which consists of the original, this abbreviated version (approx. half the size), and the super-condensed version (approx. one fifth the size). Each version also has a parallel edition published in the Spanish language, translated by Paul Martin. All of the six texts, three in English and three in Spanish are organized with the same table of contents. This parallel structure allows for quick referencing between the different-sized versions and between the two languages. Together, the six versions comprise an integrated set for studying and teaching the Progress and Poverty text in any curricular format, both in English and Spanish.
