In a single, convenient source it gives most of the information a voice care professional or performer might want to know about voice care. While written primarily for physicians, this comprehensive work is also designed to be used by (and written in language accessible to) speech-language pathologists, voice teachers, performers and others involved in the care and maintenance of the human voice. Indeed, even the most sophisticated basic science chapters provide enough introductory information to render them accessible to readers without a science background.

Reviews

The third edition of Professional Voice: The Science and Art of Clinical Care is a substantial expansion of the last edition. Robert Sataloff has again created an expansive work that embraces basic and clinical science, provides practical information for the performing artist, and introduces state of the art information for clinicians dealing with voice problems. There is an entirely new section on Surgical Management that addresses a spectrum of disorders ranging from benign to malignant disease. Many core topics in phonosurgery are discussed, including basic phonomicrosurgical techniques and important topics like the management of vocal fold hemorrhage and scarring. There are new chapters addressing the effect of medications on voice, including Psychiatric Manifestations of Medications, Cancer Chemotherapy, and Botulinum Toxin in Otolaryngology. Several chapters address the association of disease in the nose and sinuses with voice and the larynx. Again, the editor has assembled a top notch international group of contributors and integrated their work into a volume that represents the most comprehensive text on professional voice. I am anxious to add this book to my library and I anticipate that anyone seriously interested in the care of the professional voice will find it of value.
