Overview

Cardiotocography, or CTG, is a continuous recording of foetal heart rate obtained via an ultrasound transducer placed on the mother’s abdomen. CTG is widely used in pregnancy as a method of assessing foetal well‐being, predominantly in pregnancies with increased risk of complications. It is used both antenatally and during labour to monitor the baby for any signs of distress. The fourth edition of Practical Cardiotocography has been thoroughly revised to provide clinicians with the latest advances and knowledge in the field of CTG. Beginning with an overview explaining the technique, its history, and uses, the following chapters discuss the machine, how to perform CTG and interpretation of results. CTG in rarer circumstances including monitoring of twins, preterm labour, foetal acidosis, and cerebral palsy is covered, and a separate chapter is dedicated to NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) guidelines. This new edition is further enhanced by illustrations, graphs and 50 case studies. Previous edition (9789350903568) published in 2013.
