Broiler prices have been relatively strong this year considering the sharp increase in broiler meat output. For the year, the 9-city average wholesale price will average about a penny above the cents a pound for 1971. Broiler prices likely will decline further in late fall before beginning the usual winter rise. They are expected to run moderately above year-earlier levels in the winter and spring if increases in broiler output are moderate. Broiler prices in the first half of 1973 will be supported by relatively light but increasing pork supplies, relatively high red meat prices, and rising consumer incomes.
