It put a spotlight on the eccentricities of a time gone by, when a sense of rationale had somehow temporarily disappeared. When the party ended a price had to be paid and it was extreme. The illustrations were a delight and I found there was much more to find the second time around. Robert Clark Pompadou ! What a wonderful treat! I was immediately mesmerised by the illustrations, so filled with the most intricate details it took an effort to move to the text. I was so excited to find the text held the same great capacity to enthral, presenting factual insight into the French Court in a style which will delight both adults and children. This is a book you can revisit time and time again and still expect to find a surprise. J. E. Goss A delightful book, that is not only quirky and fun, but also very educational. A great introduction to language and history for the 7-12 age bracket. Pompadou is a humorous tale, outlining the strange and unlikely customs and intrigue's of the early to late 18th Century, France. Learn a petite portion of French pronunciation, and the interesting times of past during the French Revolution, all whilst enjoying the beautiful illustrations. Sue P Simply charming. I've never read a children's book quite like it ! K Allen A beautifully curated book, wonderfully illustrated and full of verse that is both witty and informative. K McLean Bizarre, quirky, exciting.
