Author Information

Author: Shen Shixi, originally named Shen Yiming, was born in Shanghai in 1952 with ancestral roots in Cixi, Zhejiang. In 1969, he went to Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, and lived in Yunnan for thirty-six years. He has served as a member of the Children’s Literature Committee of the Chinese Writers’ Association, a council member of the Shanghai Writers’ Association, and the vice chairman of the Yunnan Writers’ Association. Beginning his literary career in the early 1980s, Shen developed a deep passion for animal-themed literature and has since published over six million words of works. His books have been translated into multiple languages, including English, French, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese, and distributed worldwide. His accolades include the China Book Award, the National Outstanding Children’s Literature Award and various books have been selected by the National Press and Publication Administration as one of the ‘100 Outstanding Books Recommended for National Youth’ and ‘50 Popular Books Loved by Readers’. Illustrator: Zhang Yue is a teacher at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, an illustrator and a picture book author. She holds an MA in Illustration from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, graduating with honours. Her accolades include the Silver Award in the Book Category of the iJungle 2024 Illustration Competition, the Merit Award at the American Illustration 33 Competition, the Silver Award at the 2nd Bronze Sunflower Book Awards, and selection for the 2025 Bologna Illustrators Exhibition, among others. Passionate about observing and engaging with life through sketching, she draws inspiration from everyday experiences and enjoys experimenting with different mediums in her creative process. Her published original picture books include Woof! Woof!! Woof!!!, The Logic of Porcelain: Understanding Ceramics Through Colour and An Ordinary Day in Britain.
