OverviewPlastics in Coastal and Marine Environments: A Global Crisis serves as a comprehensive examination of the profound and growing challenges posed by plastic pollution in our planet’s coastal and oceanic regions. As plastic litter becomes an increasingly significant factor in reshaping the natural landscape, this book traces its influence from the earliest inventions of plastics to its current role as a defining marker of the Anthropocene. By detailing the spread and consequences of plastic debris, the book provides a clear narrative for understanding how these materials have become engrained in the Earth’s geological record. Beyond its historical perspective, the book stands out for its systematic approach in presenting both theoretical foundations and practical solutions to combat plastic pollution. It incorporates diverse case studies, offering insights into the varied effects of plastics on ecosystems and human societies. The concluding chapters propose actionable strategies for mitigating plastic waste, making this reference indispensable for researchers in oceanography, geology, and biology who seek to address and reverse the ongoing environmental crisis.
